Thornton-Donovan Travel Study: Vietnam 2026

This April, Thornton-Donovan students will take part in our Vietnam 2026 Travel Study, an immersive academic journey that connects classroom learning with history, culture, geography, and community life across Vietnam. The trip runs April 13–25, 2026, with stops in Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon.

Highlights from the itinerary

Students will explore Vietnam through a blend of guided historical learning, cultural experiences, and hands-on activities, including:

  • Hanoi: A deep dive into Vietnam’s history and heritage with visits to key sites such as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex, One Pillar Pagoda, and the Vietnam Military History Museum, along with a city tour featuring the Temple of Literature, Old Quarter, and a traditional Water Puppet Show.

  • Ninh Binh: A full-day excursion to the Trang An Landscape Complex (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with a boat journey through caves and karst landscapes, plus visits to historic temples and panoramic viewpoints.

  • Ha Long Bay: An overnight cruise experience including Luon Cave, Titov Island, a cooking class, and a morning Tai Chi session, followed by a visit to Sung Sot Cave.

  • Da Nang & Hoi An: Cultural and nature highlights such as the Marble Mountains, a basket boat experience in a coconut garden, a lantern-making workshop, a Vietnamese cooking class at Tra Que Village, and time in Hoi An Ancient Town, including an evening at the Hoi An Memories Show.

  • Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) & Mekong Delta: A rich mix of modern city life and regional culture, including the A O Show at the Saigon Opera House, a full-day Mekong Delta experience, the Cu Chi Tunnels, and sites such as the Independence Palace and Central Post Office, ending with a Saigon River dinner cruise farewell.
