2026-2027 Upper School Science Research Program

The Upper School Science Research Program returns for 2026-2027, offering students the chance to design and conduct their own independent STEM projects.

This program is encouraged for students interested in entering middle and high school science, engineering, technology, or robotics competitions, as well as those preparing for STEM studies in college. Students will gain lab skills, research experience, and a portfolio of completed work.

Each session includes instruction in experimental theory and process, project design and the scientific method, lab safety, data analysis, ethics review, statistical analysis, scientific writing, presentation skills, and more. Students will also have dedicated time to run experiments, collect and analyze data, and develop written and visual presentations. Individualized guidance is provided throughout, with full supervised access to lab supplies, materials, and safety equipment.*

Outside of meetings, students will be expected to dedicate time as needed to lab reports, abstracts, and presentation boards. Additional supervised lab time can be scheduled with Ms. McIe.

All students will attend at least one science fair or symposium during the school year. Ms. McIe will assist with registration paperwork, though students are responsible for competition fees (typically $50–$100; the Billion Oyster Project Symposium is free). Success at regional fairs may qualify students for state, national, or international competitions.

*Project-specific supplies must be provided by the student.

Schedule: Every Monday from 3:00-4:30, beginning September 28th, in the Life Sciences Lab.

Sessions will not be held on days that school is closed, including for weather cancellations.

Fees: There will be a one-time enrollment cost of $550 per student for the full year. Please return the following page signed in an envelope with the enrollment fee by Friday, October 2nd.
