Admissions Information
Thornton-Donovan School enrolls qualified students who possess strong
academic ability, and are motivated, and who can and do achieve.
Thornton-Donovan accepts qualified students regardless of origin,
background or English language proficiency. T-D is approved by the U.S.
Office of Immigration and issues I-20 forms to international student
members.
The admissions process begins with a personal meeting of the family with
the Headmaster. After a special introduction to the school, its faculty
and program, candidates are given an appointment to spend a day on
campus with pupils in their own grade. Decisions on Admission are based
on the strength of the interview, the student's previous school record
that should reflect above average grades, how the student interacts on
the day of the visit, and various letters of reference.
While the final decision is solely in the hands of the Headmaster, he
considers information from the faculty, the student's former teachers,
and the student's family. Testing is usually waived if the applicant's
record shows good potential and good achievement. Test scores are not
used to eliminate students from consideration.
Admissions
Application Timetable
Inquiries may be made any time during the year. Interviews with the
Headmaster can generally be arranged at the convenience of the family.
Once the application is filed, it takes the school about three weeks to
render a decision. The School operated on a rolling admissions basis and
space is far from guaranteed.
While applications can be made as late as August, others file many
months in advance before the school year begins. Not all grades are
easily entered. The School holds an annual Open House in December for
interested families and children.
Costs
Tuition for all grades 1-12 is the same as of this writing (2011-2012
semester) $16,500 per year. Of this amount, parents can receive a $1,000
tax deduction. Parents are billed for all annual expenses and may pay in
full or utilize T-D's TPP payment plan.
TPP enables parents to pay for the school expenses through regularly
scheduled monthly payments. There is a service fee ($100.00). There are
no finance charges. T-D offers limited financial aid. It is based on
need and academic excellence. T-D's scholarship programs are financed by
the generosity of parents, alumni and friends who contribute to the
school.
All T-D parents are expected to support the School's Loyalty Fund. The
Loyalty Fund was created to allow families with children who directly
benefit from a T-D education, to give something back in return, and
become investors in the T-D of today and tomorrow. All donations to the
Loyalty Fund are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
While the minimum gift is is usually $2,000.00, many families have
considerable incentive to give more. Most T-D parents are enthusiastic
about helping the school that is helping their children.
Rate Scale
2011-2012
For all grades, 1 to 12 the tuition is $16,500.
All-day kindergarten is $11,500.
The tuition for a second child in the same household is discounted to
$11,750.
The tuition for a third child in the same household is discounted to
$10,750.
In addition to tuition, a minimum Loyalty Fund gift of $2,000 is
expected. The amount can be prorated and, for your convenience, will be
shown on the monthly TPP tuition statement.
Total charges per child include full year's tuition ($16,500),
textbooks, technology, insurance, Loyalty fund donation, Parent Teacher
Partnership family dues, and two tickets to the 2012 Spring Gala.
The Loyalty Fund gift may be considered tax deductible to the fullest
extent of the law and will be receipted at the end of the tax year.
These rates include all book fees. Books are returned at the end of the
year.
PLEASE NOTE: This rate scale is in
effect for 2011-2012 school year. A minimal increase is likely for
2012-2013.
Financial Aid
Thornton-Donovan School offers a low-cost, flexible tuition plan, TPP,
which enables you to pay educational expenses through regularly
scheduled monthly payments. For
a $100.00 service fee you can avoid borrowing, or using savings or other
assets that could be earning interest.
In addition, Life Benefit Coverage
is provided at no charge. Should the enrolled parent or guardian die
while the coverage is in effect, the balance of the budgeted amount will
be paid to the school. Coverage applies to the enrolled parent or
guardian under 65 at the time of application, and remains in effect for
the term of the plan, so long as each payment is received within 15 days
of the due date. This coverage is not available to those over 65, or
those with pre-existing conditions that may contribute to the enrolled
party's death.
There are no finance charges on the amount budgeted through TPP. Past
due amounts, however, will be subject to a 1.5% interest charge per
month. This is equivalent to 18% per annum. Payment dates start as of
July 1st. You may, however, enter TPP at any time based on the date of
enrollment.
A TPP application form is enclosed with the first monthly bill. Timely
payments are expected. Report cards and records may not be released when
there is a past due balance.
What T-D Stands For
Thornton-Donovan School was founded on the principle that a school must
meet the changing needs of its students, its community, and its society.
Its philosophy and curriculum directly contribute to the development of
students who can use their individual talents to meet the challenges of
life.
Thornton-Donovan School seeks qualified students who possess ability,
who are motivated, who have self-discipline and who will both gain from
and give to the school. The school may also admit a youngster who has
potential for academic success but whose record does not demonstrate it.
T-D accepts qualified pupils regardless of race, color, creed, or
national origin. New students are accepted in all grades.
